Mason Greenwood Set for Fenerbahce Move as Manchester United Cash In

Mason Greenwood has accepted personal terms on a contract with Fenerbahce running to June 2030, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on July 8. Fenerbahce have sent Marseille an official bid worth more than €40 million and are in active talks to close out the fee. A deal isn't done, here we go territory yet, but the direction is set.

Greenwood left Old Trafford for Marseille in 2024 for a reported £26.6 million, with United negotiating a sell-on clause worth around 40 percent of any profit. Sportingpedia reported the current terms on the table, €40 million plus €2 million in add-ons, would net United close to €6.4 million, with Marseille keeping roughly €35.6 million.
Why no Premier League club is in this race
Manchester United ruled out ever bringing Greenwood back after an internal inquiry, even once the criminal charges against him, attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February 2023, Yahoo Sports reported. No other Premier League club has made an approach this summer. The competition for his signature has been between Fenerbahce, Roma, and Atletico Madrid, all clubs outside England.

Roma reportedly tabled a higher initial transfer fee, but Fenerbahce's wage offer, close to €10 million a season, is what swayed Greenwood, according to Sportingpedia. Roma's chase had also faced internal resistance, with a section of the club's fanbase petitioning against signing a player with his history.

Greenwood finished second in the Ligue 1 golden boot race with 16 goals last season and recorded 48 goals and 17 assists across two seasons at Marseille, per Yahoo Sports. Fenerbahce, runners-up in the Super Lig for a fifth straight year, will play Gornik Zabrze in Champions League qualifying this month.
